Dennis Publishing released Stuff in the United Kingdom in November 1996. It was a bi-monthly title that followed the success of magazines like FHM and Loaded in targeting a young, male audience with a focus on consumer goods and electronics.
The brand shifted to a life of luxury focus in 1998 before publishing group Haymarket purchased the title in January 1999 and refocused it on consumer technology.
In May 2018, the brand was sold to Kelsey Media.
At the time of the sale Kevin Costello, CEO of groups of Haymarket Media, said that “Stuff is a legendary brand, loved by its tech-loving fans to educate, entertain, and inspire. It’s been a big part of the Haymarket story, but our strategic focus has shifted, and Stuff needs a new home, where the brand can achieve its potential.”
The magazine’s UK edition focuses on gadgets, games, and gear, including cutting-edge consumer electronics. The news section “Hot Stuff” is concerned with new or upcoming products. The top ten lists of currently available items appear located at the back of the magazine.
US Edition
Dennis’s US arm released Stuff in the United States in 1999. Stuff’s US edition spun off from a regular section in another of the group’s titles, Maxim, showcased consumer electronics feedback besides the other articles of interest to a largely male audience.
All but one of Dennis’s US titles were sold to investment firm Quadrangle Group in June 2007, and the magazine was closed later that year.
